Unveiling History Through Architecture
Enid M. Baa Library & Archives
St. Thomas
1818

Enid M. Baa Public Library and Archives reflects an example of an 18th Century Danish Architecture TownHouse. The library was once the home of a merchant and landowner Baron von Bretton. Him and other merchants built their homes upstairs and their stores downstairs across from the brick warehouse on the south side of the street. This is the island’s first recorded fireproof building, meaning it was built of ballast brick instead of wood. Today this library and archives center is temporarily closed but there are plans for the library in the Summer of 2024.
