Annaberg

St. John

1718

The remnants of the Annaberg Plantation stands as a reminder of a time when “sugar was king.” The plantation tells a complex history of the violent displacement of Indigenous people, European settlement, and the enslavement of Africans during the 18th - 19th Century Plantation and of the Danish Colonial Era. It is reported that over 600 enslaved Africans worked at the Annaberg Plantation/Sugar Mill under brutal and inhumane conditions.
